What Is a Secret Identity?

A secret identity is a special way for someone to hide who they really are. This idea is often used in stories and books. It started because of a character named the Scarlet Pimpernel in 1903. Since then, many heroes in books and comics have used secret identities.

Heroes With Secret Identities

In American comic books, many heroes have two lives. One life is what everyone sees, like a regular person. But when they need to help people, they use a hidden identity. This hidden identity keeps their real name and true self safe.

For example, the character Superman is often shown using phone booths to change from his secret identity of Clark Kent. This helps him stay safe while still being a hero.

Why Use a Secret Identity?

Having a secret identity helps heroes do what they need to do without putting themselves or others in danger. It is a clever way to stay safe while still helping people. This makes it very exciting and fun to read about in stories!
