Meet the Skunk

Skunks are special animals that belong to a group called Mephitidae. They are most known for their bright colors, like black bodies with white stripes. Some skunks can be brown, cream-colored, or reddish-ginger. Their colorful looks help warn other animals about them.

Skunks have lived in places like North America and other parts of the world. They are clever animals with strong legs and long claws for digging. Skunks can be different sizes, from about 15 inches to over three feet long!

Even though skunks might seem shy, they are very smart. They like to eat both plants and small animals, such as berries and insects. Skunks are mostly active during the early morning and evening.

Skunks have families in the spring. A mother skunk takes care of her babies, called kits, while they learn to explore the world. These little kits are born with soft fur and open their eyes after a few weeks.
