South Arabia

South Arabia, also called Greater Yemen, is a special place in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula in West Asia. Today, this area is mostly part of Yemen. Long ago, it also included places such as Najran, Jazan, Asir, and Dhofar, which are now in Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The people of South Arabia have interesting traditions and languages. They speak two main groups of languages. One group, called the Old South Arabian languages, is no longer spoken today. The other group, called the Modern South Arabian languages, is still used by some people. Both of these languages are part of the larger Semitic family.

Long ago, South Arabia was important for trade across the Indian Ocean. People there built amazing things, like the famous dam at Marib. There are also fun stories about the Queen of Sheba. The area has a rich history and many unique cultural treasures, like special ornaments made from gold and gemstones.
