The Southern Christian Leadership Conference
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, or SCLC, was a special group that helped people treat each other fairly. It started in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1957. The group wanted to make sure everyone was treated the same, no matter their skin color.
The SCLC was led by a very important man named Martin Luther King Jr.. He helped the group organize big events and marches. These events were peaceful and showed that everyone should have equal rights.
The SCLC worked with many people and churches. They believed in using peaceful ways to change laws and make life better for all. One of their big events was the March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous โI Have a Dreamโ speech.
The group also started schools to help adults learn to read and write. This helped many people learn how to vote and stand up for their rights. The SCLCโs work made a big difference and helped change many laws to be fairer for everyone.
