Steam Engines

A steam engine is a special machine that uses steam to do work. It turns the push of steam into spinning motion, which can power many things.

Steam engines were very important during the Industrial Revolution. They helped power factories, move ships, and even run trains. The first steam engine was made in 1712 by Thomas Newcomen, and later improved by James Watt in 1764.

Today, steam engines are not used as much for everyday work. But they are still important in places where we make electricity.

Steam engines have two main parts: the boiler, which makes steam, and the engine itself. The engine usually has a piston that moves back and forth inside a cylinder. This movement helps turn things.

Steam engines need heat to make steam, usually from burning coal or wood. Some small engines might use electricity to make heat instead.

Steam engines were once used to power many machines, and they helped change how people lived and worked. Even though we don’t see them as much today, they were very important in the past.
