Welcome to Stockholm!

Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden. It is a special place where many people live and visit. The city is built on fourteen islands where a lake called Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea. About one million people call Stockholm their home.

A City Full of History

Stockholm has a long and interesting history. People have lived in the area since the Stone Age. The city was officially started in 1252 by a leader named Birger Jarl. Today, Stockholm is very important for Sweden. It is where the government works and where many big decisions are made. You can visit Stockholm Palace, which is the home of Sweden’s king.

Fun Places to Visit

Stockholm is full of amazing places to see! One famous spot is the Vasa Museum, where you can see a big ship that sank long ago but was saved. Another cool place is the Stockholm metro, which has beautiful designs in its stations. Every year, the city hosts the special Nobel Prize ceremonies to honor great people from around the world.

A Beautiful City

Stockholm is not just buildings and museums. It has lots of green spaces and water. More than thirty percent of the city is water, and thirty percent is parks! The city has a gentle climate with warm summers and cold winters. In summer, the days are long with up to eighteen hours of sunlight. In winter, days are shorter with only six hours of sunlight.

Getting Around

Traveling in Stockholm is easy thanks to its good public transport. The Stockholm Metro has three lines in different colors, making it fun to ride. There are also buses, trains, and light rail. Everything is organized by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, so switching between them is simple. In the summer, you can even rent city bikes to explore the islands.
