Sumo Languages
The Sumo languages are a group of languages spoken by people in Nicaragua and Honduras. They belong to the larger Misumalpan family of languages.
There are two main groups of Sumo languages. The northern group is called Mayangna, and it includes dialects like Tawahka and Panamahka. The southern group is called Ulwa. The Ulwa language is a bit different from Mayangna, so some experts see it as its own special language.
These languages help us learn about the culture and history of the people who speak them. Researchers like Ken Hale have studied these languages to understand more about the communities that use them.
