What is a Superorganism?

A superorganism is a group of living things that work together very well. All the animals or plants in a superorganism are from the same kind or species. When they work together, they act almost like one big living thing. They help each other and depend on one another to stay alive and strong.

Fun Examples

One great example is ants. Ants are a well-known superorganism because they work together to find food and stay safe. They do special jobs to help the group survive. Another example is a mound built by cathedral termites. These termites work together to build huge structures that help them live and stay safe.

Why People Know About Superorganisms

The idea of superorganisms helps us understand how nature works. It shows why some groups of animals or plants can do amazing things together. Scientists also think about the whole Earth as a superorganism, like all living things working together like one big team. Our own bodies can be thought of as superorganisms too, because we have tiny living things inside us that help us stay healthy.
