What is Surfing?
Surfing is a fun activity where people ride waves on special boards. Surfers paddle out to the ocean and wait for the right wave. When a wave comes, they stand up and glide along the water. Itβs like dancing with the sea!
Where Do Surfers Go?
Surfers love places with big, rolling waves. Some famous spots are the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii, where huge waves crash. Other great places are Pipeline, Waimea Bay, and Teahupo'o in Tahiti. Surfers can also ride waves in lakes, rivers, or special wave pools.
A Bit of History
Surfing is very old! People in Peru were some of the first to surf. They used small boards made from reeds. Later, the native peoples of the Pacific brought surfing to the Hawaiian Islands. Today, surfing is enjoyed all around the world. It even became an Olympic sport in 2016, with competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan.
