Temasek

Temasek was an old name for the place where Singapore is today. People from a long time ago knew this place by two special spots: Long Ya Men and Ban Zu.

The name Temasek comes from a Malay word that means "lake" or "sea". It might have meant "place surrounded by the sea". Today, the name Temasek is still used in Singapore for important things like schools and big companies.

Many years ago, travelers from faraway places wrote about Temasek in their stories. The name changed to Singapura, which means "Lion City", after a legend about seeing a lion.

Today, Temasek reminds people of the long and interesting history of Singapore. You can see the name used in places like Temasek Polytechnic and Temasek Primary School. It helps keep the past alive in the present.
