The Exodus
Adapted from Wikipedia Β· Explorer experience
The Exodus is a special story from the Bible about the Israelites. It tells how they left Egypt to find a new home. This journey is very important to the Jewish people, and they remember it every year during the festival of Passover.
Many Christians also think of the Exodus as a story about being saved and freed from hard times. In Islam, the story of Moses, who led the Israelites, is also well liked.
Today, some scholars think the Exodus story might not match exactly what happened long ago. They believe the Israelites came from the people already living in a land called Canaan. Even so, the story continues to inspire many people around the world.
The Exodus story shows how the Israelites were freed from being slaves in Egypt by Yahweh, their god. They left Egypt and faced many challenges on their journey. Yahweh guided them and provided for their needs. The story includes important events, such as the crossing of the Red Sea and the giving of laws at Mount Sinai.
The story begins in the book of Exodus. The Israelites lived in Egypt because of a past problem with food, thanks to a man named Joseph. After Joseph passed away, a new pharaoh made them slaves. One boy was saved by Pharaoh's daughter and grew up to be Moses.
Later, Yahweh appeared to Moses and told him to free the Hebrew slaves and lead them to the Promised Land in Canaan. Moses asked the pharaoh to let the Israelites go, but the pharaoh said no at first.
After some hard times for the Egyptians, the pharaoh let the Israelites leave Egypt. Yahweh guided them with a special sign during the day and night. When the pharaoh followed them, Moses parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could cross safely.
The Exodus story is very important in Judaism. It shows how Yahweh helped the Israelites and made a special promise to protect them if they followed his laws. The story is told in the first five books of the Bible, known as the Torah or Pentateuch.
