The Vandals

The Vandals were a group of people who lived long ago. They began in places that are now part of Poland. Later, they moved to other lands, including the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa.

The Vandals had kings who led them. One famous king was Genseric. Under his rule, the Vandals built a strong kingdom in North Africa. They lived in places like Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia, Malta, and the Balearic Islands.

People today sometimes use the word "Vandal" to talk about someone who breaks things. This idea comes from old stories about the Vandals. But historians also see that the Vandals helped keep some parts of Roman culture alive during a time of big changes in Europe.

The Vandals spoke a Germanic language and had their own special ways of living. Their history is studied through old records and things they left behind, like shiny gold jewelry from long ago.
