The Voyager 1 spacecraft launches aboard the Titan III/Centaur rocket on September 5, 1977, beginning its journey to explore the outer planets.

Voyager 1

Voyager 1 is a special spaceship made by NASA. It was sent into space on September 5, 1977, to learn about faraway places. It is part of a big trip called the Voyager program to study the Solar System and the space outside our Sun called interstellar space.

Voyager 1 has traveled very far. As of March 2026, it is the farthest thing made by people from Earth. It has gone past planets like Jupiter and Saturn, and even flew by Saturn's big moon, Titan.

In 2012, Voyager 1 did something amazing. It went through a place called the heliopause and entered interstellar space. It was the first spacecraft ever to do that! Even today, it keeps sending messages back to Earth.

Voyager 1 has many tools to study space. It can take pictures, measure temperatures, and listen to space sounds. Even though it is very far away, people still talk to it using big antennas.

The spaceship also carries a special golden disc. This disc has many sounds and pictures from Earth, like music, animal sounds, and greetings in different languages. It is a message for anyone who might find Voyager 1 in the future.

Voyager 1 will keep traveling through space for many years to come. It shows how amazing our space adventures can be!
