What is Wax?

Wax is a special material that is solid but can be shaped when it is warm. It comes from plants, animals, and oil places like petroleum. When wax is heated, it melts into a liquid that flows easily. But when it cools down, it becomes solid again.

Where Do We Find Wax?

Waxes are found in many places. Bees make beeswax to build their homes. Some plants, like the Brazilian palm, make carnauba wax on their leaves. We can also get wax from oil. These waxes are called paraffin waxes.

Why Do We Use Wax?

People use wax for many things. It helps make candles for light and decoration. Wax is also used to protect wood, like on furniture and floors. It can make things slippery, like helping drawers open smoothly. Wax is even used in some makeup, like lipstick. Waxes help keep food fresh and protect shoes and cars too.
