Who was Wilhelm Heinrich Waagen?
Wilhelm Heinrich Waagen was a German scientist who loved studying rocks and old bones called fossils. He was born on June 23, 1841, in Munich and passed away on March 24, 1900, in Vienna.
His Work and Travel
Waagen worked for the Geological Survey of India from 1870 to 1875. He looked at rocks and fossils in places like Kutch and the Salt Range in what is now Pakistan. Later, he became a teacher at the University of Vienna in 1890. He taught many students about Earth's history.
Why We Remember Him
Waagen’s work helped scientists learn about Earth’s past and the life that lived long ago. He studied fossils from the Jurassic period and helped people understand different times in Earth’s history. Some fossils and even a small fish were named after him for his important discoveries.
