Wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympics
Wrestling is a fun sport where athletes try to pin each other to the ground. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, wrestling happened in a big hall called the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall. There were two kinds of wrestling: Freestyle and Greco-Roman.
Boys could compete in both kinds, but girls could only compete in Freestyle. This was very special because it was the first time girls got to wrestle in the Olympics! In total, 18 gold medals were given out for wrestling.
Countries had to have their wrestlers qualify before the Olympics could begin. Each country could only send a few wrestlers to each group, so many different places could join in the fun.
Wrestling at the Olympics is watched all around the world. Athletes from 66 nations came to compete, including Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Australia, and Austria. It was a happy time for everyone who loves wrestling!
