Asia

Asia is the largest and most crowded place in the whole world. It is bigger than all the other continents put together! Many people live here — about half of everyone on Earth calls Asia their home.

Asia touches Europe and Africa. Oceans surround it too: the Pacific Ocean is to the east, the Indian Ocean is to the south, and the Arctic Ocean is to the north. Some people use places like the Ural Mountains to mark where Asia ends and Europe begins.

Long ago, great places like China and India started rich cultures and trade along routes such as the Silk Road. Asia also gave us important ways of thinking and belief systems, like Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. The land has many different kinds of places — from hot jungles and dry deserts to cold forests and snowy mountains.

People have lived in Asia for a very long time. Early humans left Africa and settled in parts of East and Southeast Asia. Later, modern humans arrived in South Asia and met another ancient group of people called Denisovans.

Asia has many amazing spots you might hear about, like the tall Himalayas mountains and the wide Gobi Desert. Big rivers such as the Yangtze flow through the land, helping plants and animals grow.

Many languages are spoken across Asia — some places have hundreds! Big countries such as Japan, India, and Russia all help make the world’s economy strong. Cities like Tokyo, Beijing, and Mumbai are busy places where lots of people live and work.

Asia’s stories, art, food, and traditions are famous everywhere. From the spicy tastes of Indian curries to the bright colors of Chinese festivals, there is always something new to discover in this wonderful continent.
