Meet the Cephalopods
Cephalopods are amazing sea animals that live in oceans all around the world. They include squids, octopuses, cuttlefish, and nautilus. These creatures have a special head and arms or tentacles that come from their foot. Many of them can release ink to hide from other animals, which is why people sometimes call them "inkfish."
Cephalopods are very smart. They have big brains and can solve puzzles or use tools. They can also change their skin color and texture quickly to hide or talk to each other. Some can even fly short distances through the air by jet propulsion! These special abilities make them very interesting to scientists and animal lovers.
These clever animals first appeared a long time ago during the Ordovician period. Today, there are about 800 different kinds of cephalopods, from very tiny ones like Idiosepius thailandicus to huge ones like the colossal squid. They live in every part of the ocean, from the deepest places to the surface, but you won’t find them in fresh water.
People have known about cephalopods for a very long time. Ancient sailors saw big squids and octopuses and told stories about them. In Greek mythology, there are tales of sea creatures that might have been inspired by these amazing animals. Cephalopods are loved for their cleverness and the wonderful ways they have of moving and hiding in the sea.
