Chile is a long, thin country in western South America. It is the southernmost country in the world and the closest to Antarctica. Chile stretches between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The capital city is Santiago, where many people live.

Chile has many different landscapes. In the north, there is the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth. In the middle, there are green valleys and farms. In the south, there are forests, mountains, and beautiful lakes. Some parts of Chile are very cold, while others are warm and sunny.

Chile is home to many interesting plants and animals. The north has tough plants like cacti. The central valley has forests with trees like the Chilean pine. The south has thick forests with many kinds of trees. Animals you might find in Chile include the puma, a big cat, and the guanaco, which looks like a camel. The coast has many fish, whales, and seals.
