Hoarding in Animals
Some animals hide food in special places. They do this so they can eat later, when food is hard to find. This is called hoarding or caching. It helps animals survive during tough times, like cold winters.
Birds like the western scrub jay are very good at remembering where they hide their food. Rodents such as hamsters and squirrels also love to store food. They might hide it in one big spot or in many little spots.
Animals hide food for different reasons. Sometimes they want to eat it later when it is ripe, like green plantains. Other times, they just want to save extra food for a rainy day. This clever behavior helps them stay safe and healthy.
