A rare frog species from Chile called the Sapo de Mehuín.

A Special Frog From Chile

There is a very special frog called Insuetophrynus acarpicus, or Barrio's frog. This frog lives only in one place on Earth: Chile. You can find it along the Valdivian Coast Range, a beautiful area near towns such as Chanchán, Queule, and Mehuín.

Barrio's frog is rare and lives nowhere else in the world. It is found only in a few special spots between 50 meters and almost 500 meters above sea level. Because it lives in only a small area, many people think it is very important to help protect its home.

This little frog likes to stay in coastal streams in temperate forest. During the day, it hides under stones, and at night it comes out to look for food. Its tiny tadpoles, called tadpoles, also live in the water, hiding under stones in muddy spots.
