Welcome to Madeira

Madeira is a beautiful group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a special part of Portugal called the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The islands are about 805 km (500 miles) southwest of mainland Portugal. Madeira is also part of the European Union.

The main island of Madeira is very green and mountainous. It has lush forests and nice weather all year. The capital city is Funchal, where many people live and visit.

Madeira is famous for its special Madeira wine. This sweet wine is enjoyed all around the world. People also love to visit Madeira for its beautiful scenery. They like to go whale watching, hike in the mountains, and relax on the beaches.

The islands were first found by Portuguese sailors in 1419. Since then, many people have come to live and visit Madeira. Today, it is a lovely place to explore and enjoy nature.
