Mali
Mali is a big, beautiful country in West Africa. It does not touch the ocean, but it is the eighth-largest country in Africa! Mali shares borders with Algeria to the north, Niger to the east, Mauritania to the northwest, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast to the south, and Guinea and Senegal to the west. The capital city is Bamako, where many people live and work.
Long ago, Mali was part of amazing empires like the Mali Empire. One famous ruler was Mansa Musa, who loved to share his wealth and help others. The city of Timbuktu was a special place for learning and sharing ideas.
Today, Mali is known for its natural gifts, like shiny gold and tasty foods. People in Mali enjoy music, dancing, and storytelling. One popular sport is association football, and children often play it together in villages.
Mali has many different groups of people, each with their own traditions and languages. Life can be busy and full of color, with markets, festivals, and delicious dishes like jollof rice and maafe, a tasty stew.
Mali’s land changes from desert in the north to green grasslands in the south. The Niger River helps bring water to many places, making it perfect for growing crops and helping people live comfortably.
