Welcome to Mauritania!

Mauritania is a big, beautiful country in Northwest Africa. It is next to the Atlantic Ocean and shares borders with Western Sahara, Algeria, Mali, and Senegal. Imagine a giant sandbox, but instead of sand, it has wide, open spaces and deserts!

Daily Life

Most people in Mauritania speak Arabic and follow the Sunni Islam way of life. Families often enjoy tasty foods like thieboudienne, a mix of rice, fish, and vegetables. Drinking green tea with mint is a kind way to say “hello” or “welcome.”
