Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in a family that cared about fairness and treating everyone equally. His father was a pastor, which helped shape his beliefs about right and wrong.
Martin studied many subjects in school, including history and philosophy. These helped him understand more about how people should treat each other kindly and with respect.
Martin became a leader in the civil rights movement. He believed that all people should be treated the same, no matter their skin color. He used peaceful ways, like marches and speeches, to make change happen. One of his most famous speeches was the "I Have a Dream" speech, given during the March on Washington in 1963. In this speech, he shared his hope for a future where everyone would be equal.
For his work for peace and fairness, Martin received many awards. In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Today, we remember him for his dream of a better world. The United States has a holiday called Martin Luther King Jr. Day to honor him. This holiday celebrates his life and his wish for equality for all people.
Martin is also remembered for his family. He married Coretta Scott, and they had four children: Yolanda King, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, and Bernice King. His ideas about peace and fairness continue to inspire many people around the world.
