Switzerland
Switzerland is a beautiful country in Europe. It is landlocked, meaning it is surrounded by mountains and does not touch the ocean. Switzerland touches Germany, France, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Italy.
The country is famous for its stunning landscapes. The Swiss Alps cover much of the south. These tall mountains are great for skiing and snowboarding. The Swiss Plateau in the center is where most people live. Big cities like Zurich and Geneva are here. The Jura Mountains are in the northwest.
Switzerland is known for its careful way of governing itself. It is a federal republic with 26 regions called cantons. Each canton has its own traditions. Bern is the capital city and the seat of the government.
People in Switzerland speak four main languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. Even with these different languages, Swiss people feel united through their history and love for the Alps.
Switzerland is also famous for its chocolate, cheese, and watches. Many people visit for the mountains and cities, though living there can be expensive. The country is home to important groups like the Red Cross and the United Nations.
One fun fact: Switzerland is very good at keeping things fair and peaceful. It has a policy of neutrality, meaning it tries to stay out of other countries' fights. This helps it stay safe and friendly with everyone.
Another fun fact: The name "Switzerland" comes from an old word, "Switzer," plus "-land," meaning a region. The short code "CH" for the country comes from its Latin name, "Confoederatio Helvetica".
Switzerland has many places to explore, from snowy mountains to busy cities. It is a wonderful country with rich traditions and beautiful nature.
