What is the Wuliuan?

The Wuliuan is an important time in Earth's long history. It was a special part of the Cambrian period, and it was the first stage of the Miaolingian Series. Scientists decided this in 2018.

How Do We Know When It Started?

The Wuliuan started when a tiny sea creature called Oryctocephalus indicus first appeared. This little trilobite helped scientists know when this time began. The Wuliuan ended when another trilobite, Ptychagnostus atavus, showed up, about 504.5 million years ago.

Where Is It Marked?

The special spot that marks the start of the Wuliuan is in the Kaili formation near Balang Village in the Miaoling Mountains of Guizhou, China. This place is called the 'golden spike' and it helps scientists all over the world.
