The Miaolingian

The Miaolingian is a very old time from long, long ago. It was part of something called the Cambrian Period. This time started about 506.5 million years ago and ended about 497 million years ago. It has three parts: the Wuliuan, Drumian, and Guzhangian.

People named this time after the Miaoling Mountains in Guizhou, China. Scientists love to study this time because it helps them learn about how life in the oceans changed a lot. Many new sea animals appeared then!

During the Miaolingian, small ocean animals called graptolites started to change and evolve. One graptolite from the Wuliuan time was called Sphenoecium. It made strong groups of colonies all over the world.

The Miaolingian came after the Cambrian Series 2 and before the Furongian. Scientists use special fossils, like trilobites, to know when this time began and ended. It is a very important time for learning about Earth’s early history.
