History

Hachez was a chocolate company in Bremen, Germany. It started in 1890 by Joseph Emile Hachez and Gustav Linde. One of its best-known products was the Feodora brand of chocolates, added in 1953.

In 2012, Hachez joined Toms, a candy company from Denmark. After this, it used the name Hanseatisches Chocoladen Kontor. Today, the chocolate is made in Nowa Sól, Poland, where production moved in 2020. The Hachez story shows how chocolate companies can grow and change over time.

History

The company was started by Joseph Emile Hachez and his partner Gustav Linde in 1890. Joseph Emil Hachez was related to Joseph Johan Hachez, who was born in Bruges. Joseph Johan moved to Bremen in the 1700s and married the daughter of a local merchant in 1785.

In 1894, the company moved from the Bremer Altstadt area to Weserstrasse in the Neustadt area, near the Weser. The company's headquarters stayed there until it was taken over by Toms.

During the Second World War, the company's factory was almost destroyed, but it was rebuilt after the war. In 1953, the company started making Feodora pralines. Over time, the company changed owners many times. In 2020, production moved to Nowa Sól in Poland. Today, the HACHEZ brand is sold by Hanseatisches Chocoladen Kontor GmbH & Co. KG in Bremen.

Production

The cocoa used by Hachez mainly comes from South America. The cocoa is roasted using hot air in traditional drums. After roasting, the cocoa is ground and rolled very small. The final step, called conching, can take up to 72 hours. In total, it takes more than 100 hours to make the chocolate products.

Distribution

Hachez sold its chocolate in many countries around the world. Some of these countries were India, Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. This let the company share its chocolate with people all over the globe.
