Lotte World Tower (Korean: 롯데월드타워; RR: lotdewoldeutawo) is a very tall building with 123 stories and a height of 555 metres (1,821 ft). It is located in Sincheon-dong, Songpa District, Seoul, South Korea. This amazing structure is the sixth-tallest building in the world, the tallest in OECD countries, and the tallest in South Korea. When it was finished, it was the fifth-tallest building in the world.

The Lotte World Tower opened to the public on April 3, 2017, making it a fairly new and exciting place to visit. One of its special features is a "Sky Bridge Tour" located on the roof at 541 m (1,775 ft). This height is almost the same as the One World Trade Center in New York City, which is the tallest building in the United States. It's an amazing sight and a popular spot for visitors.

History

After many years of planning, the Lotte World Tower received approval to start building in November 2010. The first construction work began in March 2012.

In December 2015, the building's LED lights showed the number "2016". The tower officially opened on April 3, 2017, with fireworks. On New Year's Day in 2018, it celebrated with fireworks and a LED laser show for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Design

The Lotte World Tower has a special lantern-shaped roof finished in March 2016. This roof, made from strong steel parts, stands 120 metres tall and covers the top floors of the building. It can handle strong winds and big earthquakes without needing extra support inside.

The building's outside features light-colored glass inspired by Korean ceramics, with beautiful metal designs. It also includes green technology like a heat pump system, special glass to save energy, solar panels, and systems to collect rainwater.

Floor plans

Seoul Sky is located at the very top of the Lotte World Tower, covering the top seven floors. Visitors can walk on a special glass floor on levels 117–118 and enjoy views from the sky terrace on floors 119–120. The top floor, reachably at 499 meters, hosts a premium lounge bar.

From the 42nd to the 101st floor, the tower contains Signiel, South Korea's tallest hotel and residence, which has been home to many famous people, including Shin Kyuk-ho, chairman of the Lotte Corporation. The observatory at the top requires an admission fee to enter and has different opening hours on weekdays and weekends.

Culture

The Lotte World Tower has become a popular spot for special events and festivals. One such event is the Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place around Seokchon Lake. People gather to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms, and the festival includes free activities at various locations around the lake and nearby parks.

Another popular event is the Fireworks Festival, which started after the tower was completed in 2016. This festival features a spectacular fireworks show at the tower, along with a K-POP concert and other fun activities. The Lotte Championship golf tournament also uses a trophy designed to look like the World Tower.

Evaluation

In 2014, Lotte held a 10-day pre-opening event in September, inviting experts to check the building's safety and allowing the public to take preview tours. Many people liked it, though some thought Lotte was just trying to get attention. Earlier concerns about the building's safety were addressed, and by 2016, it was praised for its strong design and ability to withstand earthquakes. By 2017, locals in Seoul also considered it safe and well-designed.
