The SIAM Journal on Computing is a scientific journal that focuses on the mathematical and formal sides of computer science. It is published by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, often called SIAM. This journal is important because it shares deep and careful research about how math can help us understand computers better.
Even though its official short name is SIAM J. Comput., many people, including the publisher and writers, use an even shorter name: SICOMP. This journal often includes special collections of papers from big computer science events. For example, it publishes some papers from the IEEE Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS) and the Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC). These events are where some of the most interesting ideas in computer science are shared, and about 15% of the papers from each event are invited to appear in special issues of the journal. This means that readers of SICOMP can find some of the most important and thoughtful work in computer science each year.
