This method was created by a mathematician named Viggo Brun in 1915. It works by looking at numbers that fit special rules called congruences. These rules help us see how numbers relate to each other.

Later, other mathematicians used Brun's idea to create something called the fundamental lemma of sieve theory. This helps us learn more about numbers and their patterns.
