Canada joined the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. Even during the hard times of the Great Depression, Canada sent a big team to the games. There were 102 athletes, with 85 men and 17 women, who took part in 69 events across 10 sports.

A member of the Canadian Olympic Committee, W. A. Fry, wrote a book about Canada’s performance in both the 1932 Winter and Summer Olympics. The book, called Canada at the tenth Olympiad, 1932, was published in 1933 by the Dunnville Chronicle. It was dedicated to a Canadian sports person, Francis Nelson, who passed away that same year.
