Caroline Bamberger Fuld

Caroline Bamberger Fuld, often called "Carrie," was born on March 16, 1864. She was an American businesswoman who helped others through kindness and giving.

Together with her brother Louis Bamberger, she started a big department store named L. Bamberger & Co. in Newark. This store became very important for many people in the area.

Later in her life, Carrie and her brother created the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. This was a place where smart people could learn and share their knowledge.

Carrie passed away on July 18, 1944, but her work continues to help people today.

Biography

Caroline, known as Carrie, Bamberger grew up in Baltimore as one of six children. Her family had a strong business background. In 1883, she and her brother Louis moved to Philadelphia, where she met and later married Louis Meyer Frank.

In 1892, the family, including their friend Felix Fuld, started a department store called L. Bamberger and Co. in Newark, New Jersey. This was unusual at the time because running a business was mostly seen as men's work. All four of them worked together and introduced new ways of advertising and selling.

After her first husband passed away in 1910, Carrie married Felix Fuld in 1913. When they sold the store to R. H. Macy and Co. in 1929, they shared some of the money with long-time employees.

Carrie then focused on helping others. She and her brother decided to support the creation of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, providing a large amount of money to help it grow. She remained involved with the Institute for many years.
