Circus Krone

Circus Krone, based in Munich, is one of the largest circuses in Europe. It is special because it is one of the few circuses in Western Europe, along with Cirque d'hiver de Paris, Cirque d'hiver d'Amiens and Cirque Royal in Brussels, that has its own building to perform in. This makes it a unique place where families can enjoy exciting shows with talented performers.

History

Circus Krone was started in 1905 by Carl Krone. It began as an animal exhibition and was later run by his daughter Frieda Sembach-Krone and her husband Carl Sembach-Krone. Since 1919, the circus has owned a special building in Munich. Sadly, this building was destroyed during bombings in 1944 but was rebuilt in 1950.

For over a hundred years, Circus Krone became famous around the world. Christel Sembach-Krone, Frieda’s daughter, led the circus until 2017. Now, Jana Mandana Lacey-Krone, who is married to Martin Lacey, Jr., will lead the circus into the future.

Features

Circus Krone has a big circus tent that can fit 5,000 people. The tent is 48 by 64 metres wide and its dome is 14 metres high. It covers an area of about 2,000 square metres, the size of a football field.

The circus uses many animals in its shows, such as lions, elephants, a hippopotamus, a rhinoceros, horses, monkeys, pigs, porcupines, goats, zebras, and parrots. The tent is made very strong with steel masts and beams so it stays up even in bad weather. It can be put up in just one day and is ready for shows with all its lights and sound.
