Donauwörth

Donauwörth is a town and the capital of the Donau-Ries district in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is said to have been started by two fishermen where the rivers Danube (Donau) and Wörnitz meet. The city is part of the scenic route called "Romantische Straße" (Romantic Road).

The city is between Munich and Nuremberg, 46 km north of Augsburg. It is a place where history and nature come together, making it an interesting spot to learn about Germany's past and beautiful landscapes.

History

Donauwörth grew in the 1100s and 1200s near the castle of Mangoldstein. In the 1300s, it became important to the Holy Roman Empire and stayed that way until 1607.

The town was part of big wars. It was involved in events that helped start the Thirty Years' War after a disagreement about a church celebration. Later, important battles happened nearby during the War of the Spanish Succession and the time of Napoleon.
