Map showing where California is located in the United States.

Edwards is a small place in Kern County, California. It used to be called Muroc and Wherry Housing. Edwards is found about 16 miles east-southeast of Mojave, around 22 miles northeast of Lancaster, and just 15 miles east of Rosamond. It sits close to California City, only about 5.5 miles to the north, and stands at an elevation of 2,356 feet above sea level.

Many years ago, this area was created to provide homes for people working at a nearby air force base. In 1951, the name changed to Edwards when the base was renamed, and a post office was moved from Muroc. Today, Edwards is part of the large Edwards Air Force Base area, which is very important for aircraft testing and space exploration.

Climate

Edwards has a semi-arid climate, which means it is dry with cool winters and warm summers. This type of climate is often shown on climate maps with the code "BSk".
