Energizer Park
Energizer Park, previously called CityPark, is a special stadium for soccer games in St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. It can hold 22,423 people and is where the St. Louis City SC team plays. This team is part of Major League Soccer, the top soccer league in the country.
The stadium is located next to Union Station in the Downtown West neighborhood. It was finished in November 2022, just before the 2023 Major League Soccer season began. Besides St. Louis City SC, the stadium is also where St. Louis City 2 plays. They are part of MLS Next Pro, a league for developing players.
At first, a healthcare company called Centene Corporation had the right to name the stadium, and it was called Centene Stadium. But later that year, Centene decided not to keep that name, and the stadium became CityPark. In 2025, Energizer got the naming rights, and that is why it is called Energizer Park today.
History
In February 2016, Major League Soccer (MLS) began looking for a place in downtown St. Louis to build a soccer stadium. A spot had been chosen before for another team that left.
A group called "MLS2STL" formed in February 2017 to bring an MLS team to St. Louis. They included leaders from local sports teams and businesses.
In November 2016, they shared plans for a $200 million stadium on state land. They asked for some public money, but many people, including the governor, said no. The plan was voted on in April 2017 and was turned down.
In October 2018, a new group called "MLS 4 The Lou" made a new plan for the same spot. This time, they would pay for everything themselves, with some tax help from the city.
The new plan got support from many leaders, and MLS approved St. Louis as a new team in August 2019. Building began in February 2020. The stadium opened in November 2022 with a friendly game. The first official MLS game was in March 2023.
In October 2024, the stadium was renamed Energizer Park after a local battery company became the naming sponsor. The stadium will also get new premium seating areas.
Design
The stadium is in Mill Creek Valley, a place that changed a long time ago. There is a monument outside to remember the people who lived there.
The stadium has a grassy field for games. The field is lower than the street. There are rows of seats for fans, and a roof to keep off the rain. Every seat is close to the field, so it is a good place to watch a game. There is also a special area for fans to stand and cheer, with places for drums and flags during matches.
Notable events
2028 Summer Olympics
The stadium will host eight soccer games during the 2028 Summer Olympics. This will be the first time St. Louis has had Olympic events since it hosted the 1904 Summer Olympics.
