Erongo Region
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Erongo is one of the 14 regions of Namibia. Its capital is the coastal town of Swakopmund. The region is named after Mount Erongo, a famous landmark. Erongo includes towns such as Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, Omaruru, Arandis, Karibib, and Usakos. These places are connected by paved roads, making travel easy.
The region has a beautiful shoreline along the Atlantic Ocean. It also shares borders with several other regions: Kunene to the north, Otjozondjupa to the northeast, Khomas to the southeast, and Hardap to the south.
Economy and infrastructure
The Erongo Region has many mining operations, such as at Navachab and near Uis. The town of Karibib has a marble industry. Walvis Bay, which became part of Erongo in 1994, is important for Namibia's fishing and has the country's only deep sea port. It is also the second largest town in Namibia. Swakopmund and Langstrand are well-known beach resorts. Arandis helps support the mining industry, and Swakopmund has manufacturing.
Because Erongo is close to the coast, it has good facilities like schools, hospitals, electricity, and telephone services. The region has many schools with thousands of students.
Politics
Erongo is a region in Namibia where many people support different political groups. In past elections, the main party, SWAPO, often won, but other parties like the UDF and IPC also won in some places.
The region has seven areas for voting, called constituencies. These include places like Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
Demographics
The Erongo Region in Namibia is home to 240,206 people. Most live in towns, and only a few live in the countryside. The region is big, so there are not many people in each square kilometer.
People speak many languages there, including Oshiwambo, Afrikaans, and Damara/Nama. Most young children go to school, and many adults can read and write. Many families earn money from jobs, while some get help from family or do other work. Most homes have clean water and electricity, though not all have the internet or modern cooking tools.
