The Friendship Festival was a yearly celebration of the friendship between Canada and the United States. This event took place in Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York, towns connected by the Peace Bridge. The festival happened each year from 1987 to 2019, usually from June 29 to July 4.
These dates included important holidays like Canada Day (July 1) and Independence Day (July 4). The festival also remembered the long peace between the two countries since the end of the War of 1812.
The festival had many free activities. These included car shows, concerts by local and famous bands, a midway with rides, food vendors, places to enjoy breakfast each morning, and shows featuring interesting animals. Some past performers were Theory of a Deadman in 2008 and Hedley in 2010. In 2012, Fort Erie added more concerts during the festival, with 27 bands from the Niagara and Buffalo areas.
