Husum
Husum
Husum is a town in Germany. It is located in the district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Husum is the capital of this district.
The town is famous as the birthplace of the novelist Theodor Storm. He called it “the grey town by the sea.”
Every year, Husum holds an international piano festival named Raritäten der Klaviermusik. The festival started in 1987 and brings musicians from all over the world.
History
Husum was first mentioned in the year 1252. Like many towns near the North Sea, Husum was shaped by big storms. In 1362, a huge storm changed the land and created a harbor, which helped the town grow.
Two new villages grew up around Husum soon after. The town's name appeared for the first time in 1409 on an old map. Its first church was built in 1431, and later it gained special rights that helped it become more important.
