Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, called Inter Miami, is an American professional soccer team based in Miami. They play in Major League Soccer (MLS) as part of the Eastern Conference. Since April 2026, their home games have been held at Nu Stadium. Before that, they played at Chase Stadium.

The team was officially approved as an expansion team in Miami on January 29, 2018. They gained attention because one of their co-owners is famous player David Beckham. In 2023, they signed world-famous player Lionel Messi, which brought even more excitement.

Since starting in the 2020 season, Inter Miami has welcomed many talented players like Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuaín, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul, Sergio Reguilón, and Germán Berterame.

After Messi joined, the team won their first big trophy, the 2023 Leagues Cup. This achievement allowed them to compete in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup for the first time. In the 2024 season, Inter Miami earned their first Supporters' Shield, qualifying them to host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. By 2025, their value was estimated at $1.2 billion by Forbes, making them the second-most valuable team in the league after Los Angeles FC. On December 6, 2025, Inter Miami won their first MLS Cup Championship by defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1.

History

Expansion

In November 2012, Major League Soccer wanted to put a new team in Miami. A team led by Barcelona and businessman Marcelo Claure tried to join in 2008 but it did not work. Later, David Beckham bought the right to start a team in 2014. His group got the team in 2018 to start in 2020.

Early years (2020–2023)

Inter Miami played their first game on March 1, 2020, and lost to Los Angeles FC. Their first home game was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2020, they won their first game. In 2021, new owners took control of the team. Inter Miami had some rule problems in 2021 and got fines.

Lionel Messi era (2023–present)

On June 1, 2023, Inter Miami changed their coach. Soon after, famous player Lionel Messi joined the team. After Messi joined, many more fans came to games. Messi played his first game on July 21 and helped the team win. In August 2023, Inter Miami won their first big trophy, the 2023 Leagues Cup final. They did not make the MLS playoffs that year, but Messi won another big award while playing for them.

In 2024, Inter Miami won their first Supporters' Shield and finished the season with many points. They reached the MLS Cup final and won their first MLS Cup title.

Colors and badge

Inter Miami CF, or Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, showed its name and colors on September 5, 2018. The design looks like Miami’s special building style called Art Deco. It shows two great white herons making the letter M with their legs. Between them is a sun with seven rays. The design also includes the team name and the year 2020, when the team first played. The colors are pink, white, black, and a little blue.

There was some talk about the birds in the design, but the team said they are white herons. The team’s name was discussed because another team, Inter Milan, thought it was too similar. After some talks, everything was settled, and Inter Miami could keep its name.

In April 2021, Inter Miami CF and AutoNation made an agreement to work together for three years. In March 2024, Tudor became the club's official timekeeper. In April 2024, Lowe's began a partnership where fans could meet players at some stores and earn points. In May 2024, Visa joined as a sponsor, getting special rights to show their brand around the world.

Stadium

Chase Stadium

Chase Stadium, also called DRV PNK Stadium before, is a soccer stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was built where an old stadium named Lockhart Stadium used to be. The stadium is set up so the sun doesn’t shine in the goalie’s eyes during games. It is where the team practices and plays, and it also has space for the team’s younger players. Building the stadium cost a lot of money.

When famous soccer player Lionel Messi joined the team, the team planned to add more seats. They used old bleachers from a race track to make new seating areas. In 2024, the stadium was named Chase Stadium after a company called JPMorgan Chase made a deal to help name it. The stadium also has special roof tops that can light up.

Nu Stadium

Inter Miami started playing in Fort Lauderdale in 2020, but they will move to a new stadium called Nu Stadium when it is finished. This new stadium will hold 25,000 people and be part of a big area called Freedom Park near the Miami International Airport. Many people voted to let this stadium be built on land that used to be a golf course.

Building the stadium was delayed because the soil had things in it that made it hard to build. But in 2023, work finally started, and the stadium is expected to open in 2026. In March 2026, it was announced that the stadium would be named Nu Stadium after a company called NuBank.

Training complex

In 2019, Inter Miami chose a place called Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale to be their training area. The training place is big—it covers 30 acres—and has fields for practicing, a park, and a place for the community. It has seven fields where different teams practice, from the youngest players to the main team. In 2022, an insurance company called Florida Blue bought the naming rights, so the training center is now called the Florida Blue Training Center. It also has a big field where a rugby team called the Miami Sharks plays.

Transportation

The Freedom Park area is close to the Miami International Airport and a train and bus station called Miami Intermodal Center. People can take Metrorail trains to Downtown Miami or Tri-Rail trains to areas farther away. The Intermodal Center is right next to the stadium area.

Chase Stadium is near a big highway called Interstate 95. There are parking areas for fans who buy tickets early and extra space for other visitors. The closest train station is Cypress Creek, but special night trains aren’t planned for games. In 2022, Inter Miami worked with a train company called Brightline to bring special trains from Miami and West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale for games. The service is called GOOOL Getter and will run three times before and after each home game. In 2025, Tri-Rail said they will have special schedules for Inter Miami games.

Ownership

The group that owns Inter Miami CF started in 2013 as Miami Beckham United but is now called Miami Freedom Park LLC. A businessman named Marcelo Claure led the group, with Masayoshi Son and brothers Jorge and Jose Mas joining in 2017. This began because David Beckham signed a contract with MLS in 2007 when he joined LA Galaxy. That contract gave him the chance to own a new team for a lower price.

Later, on September 17, 2021, Beckham and the Mas brothers bought out the shares of Claure and Son. Ares Management also became part of the ownership group.

Supporters

Inter Miami CF has four special groups of fans called supporters groups. These groups are named The Siege, Southern Legion, Vice City 1896, and Nación Rosa Y Negro. They cheer for the team and help make the games more fun.

Rivalries

Inter Miami has a rivalry with Orlando City, the only other soccer team in Florida. This rivalry is called the "Florida Derby." Orlando City joined the league in 2015, but they didn’t play against Inter Miami until Inter Miami joined in 2020.

Inter Miami also has a rivalry with Miami FC, another team in the same city. This match is known as the "Miami Clásico."

Infrastructure

Reserve team

In 2019, Inter Miami said they would have a team in the third level of American soccer. This team helps young players get ready for the main team. The team was meant to start in 2020, but had to wait because of health problems. In 2022, the team changed its name and moved to a new league.

Academy

The Inter Miami Academy is where young players train to improve. It started in 2019 and has teams for ages 12 to 17. These teams train at the same place as the main team and play in a special league for young players.

Media

Inter Miami's first three matches in 2020 were shown on national TV. Ray Hudson was the color commentator, Andres Cordero was the play-by-play commentator, Fernando Fiore was the host, and Kaylyn Kyle was the sideline reporter. In April 2020, the team made a deal with CBS Television Stations. Their games would be shown on WBFS-TV, with some games on WFOR-TV. In April 2020, they also made a deal with Univision. Their games would be shown on WAMI and WQBA radio.

In February 2023, Inter Miami named Kieran Gibbs as the media director. The team has many partnerships with well-known companies. In May 2024, they announced a partnership with Visa Inc.
