List of Roman amphitheatres

Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience

A panoramic view of the ancient Roman arena at Virunum, a historic site in Austria.

Amphitheatres were special big places built by the Romans a long time ago. They were usually round or oval with seats all around, so people could watch events from everywhere. These places were different from theatres, which were only half-circle shaped.

Map of Roman amphitheatres

We know about at least 230 of these amazing buildings from the Roman Empire. They can be found in many countries today, each telling us about life in ancient times. These amphitheatres were important places for people to gather and watch shows and games.

The actual amphitheatre lies under the church in the village of Agioi Deka, built over the arena where the 10 saints were martyred. The shape of the arena can be made out in surrounding buildings.
