The Pinacoteca di Brera, also called the Brera Art Gallery, is the main public gallery for paintings in Milan, Italy. It has a very important collection of Italian paintings from the 13th century to the 20th century. This great collection grew from the cultural program of the Brera Academy, which is in the same building, the Palazzo Brera. Visitors can see many beautiful artworks that show the history of painting in Italy over many years. The gallery is a special place for people who love art and want to learn about great painters from the past.

History

The Palazzo Brera in Milan is named after an old word for a grassy area. Over time, many important groups, like scientists and artists, used the building. In 1809, the Brera Art Gallery opened to show famous paintings from Italy.

The gallery grew over the years, adding more artworks from different times and artists. By the 1900s, it had paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the gallery keeps growing and shows its collection in new spaces, like the Palazzo Citterio, to share art with everyone.
