Suleiman Stalsky

Suleiman Stalsky was a poet from the North Caucasus region, especially from Dagestan. He was of Lezgin descent and was born on May 18, 1869. He passed away on November 23, 1937.

Stalsky’s poetry was closely tied to his Lezgin roots and the scenery of Dagestan. His work showed the traditions, challenges, and beauty of his people and their home.

The well-known Russian writer Maxim Gorky spoke highly of Stalsky, likening him to Homer, the ancient poet, and calling him the “Homer of the 20th century.” This shows how much his poetry was respected.
