Thornton Steward

Thornton Steward is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, close to Wensleydale. The name comes from Old English words for a hawthorn tree on a farm.

The village has a reservoir owned by Yorkshire Water and is part of the North Yorkshire Council. One of its most important buildings is St Oswald's Church. The church is thought to be the oldest in Wensleydale, with some parts dating back to the year 680. The church was featured on a TV show called Time Team.

Thornton Steward was also shown in the British TV series All Creatures Great and Small. From the hill East Witton Fell, you can see the village, and on the other side, you can see Jervaulx Abbey. The village had a school that opened in 1815, but it closed down later. It is near interesting places like Thorp Perrow Arboretum and the Green Howards regimental exhibition.
