A view of U.S. Route 90 in Texas, showing a quiet stretch of road near Van Horn.

U.S. Route 90 (US 90) is a major east–west highway in Texas. Much of it runs close to another important road called I-10. The highway starts at Bus. I-10 in Van Horn. From there, it goes through big cities like San Antonio and Houston. Finally, it continues into the neighboring state of Louisiana. This road connects many places and helps people travel across Texas.

Route description

US 90 starts in Van Horn at a junction with Bus. I-10 and SH 54. It goes southeast toward Marfa, where it overlaps with US 67. The highway runs close to the US-Mexico Border near the Rio Grande and crosses the Amistad Reservoir before going through Del Rio. It continues east through Brackettville, Uvalde, and Medina counties, arriving in San Antonio as a major freeway.

East of Downtown San Antonio, US 90 runs together with I-10 until Seguin. The highways cross each other again on the way to Houston. US 90 and I-10 overlap once more east of Columbus, separating near Brookshire before overlapping again from Katy to Houston. East of Houston, US 90 becomes known as the Crosby Freeway. The Crosby Freeway was built in the early 1990s and expanded in 2011. It connects to I-610 and I-10 with special ramps. The freeway has four to six lanes throughout its length.

Leaving Houston, US 90 heads northeast as the Crosby Freeway and then continues east through Beaumont along College Street. It passes Baptist Hospital Beaumont and meets I-10 again. US 90 then goes through Orange, crosses the Sabine River into Louisiana, and heads toward Lake Charles. Most of the road has at least four lanes, except for a short 11-mile stretch between Liberty and Devers that has only two lanes.
