Wabash Valley

The Wabash Valley is a region in parts of Illinois and Indiana. It is named after the Wabash River. The area centers around Terre Haute, Indiana. Many towns and cities, such as Clinton, Lafayette, Mount Carmel, Princeton, Terre Haute, and Vincennes, are close to the lower part of the Wabash River. This valley is important to the local culture and geography for the people who live there.

Counties

The Wabash Valley has many counties in Indiana and Illinois.

In Indiana, the counties are Posey, Gibson, Vigo, Clay, Sullivan, Vermillion, Parke, Greene, Putnam, Owen, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Fountain, Tippecanoe, and Warren.

In Illinois, the counties are Clark, Edgar, Crawford, Jasper, Cumberland, Coles, Douglas, Gallatin, Edwards, Wabash, and White. Some sources may list a few more counties near the river.

Seismic activity

The Wabash Valley Fault System is in parts of Illinois, Indiana, and a small part of Kentucky. On April 18, 2008, a Magnitude 5.2 earthquake happened near Bellmont, Illinois. People felt it in many places, even as far as Chicago and St. Louis. There were no serious injuries, though a porch collapsed in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The biggest earthquake ever recorded in this area was a 5.4 magnitude one in 1968.
