The 34th New Zealand Parliament was a group of elected leaders who made important decisions for the country. It began after the general election held on 30 November 1963. During this time, these leaders worked together to help guide New Zealand and solve problems that mattered to the people. This Parliament was part of the history of how New Zealand was governed and made laws to support its citizens.

1963 general election

Main article: 1963 New Zealand general election

The 1963 general election happened on Saturday, November 30. In this election, 80 members were chosen to represent different areas. Fifty-two came from the North Island, twenty-four from the South Island, and four from Māori electorates. This was one more area for the North Island than the last election in 1960. Over one million people were allowed to vote, and about 89.6% of them participated in the election.

Ministries

The National Party won the election in 1960, and Keith Holyoake became the leader of the government. His team, called the second Holyoake Ministry, worked together from December 1960 until early 1972. During this time, the second National Government stayed in charge until they lost the election in 1972.
