Bangladesh at the Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

Bangladesh has taken part in every Summer Olympic Games since 1984, but has never joined the Winter Olympic Games. Before 1947, athletes from Bangladesh competed as part of British India, and later as Pakistan until 1971. Up to 2024, no athlete from Bangladesh has won an Olympic medal.

In 2016, Siddikur Rahman became the first person from Bangladesh to qualify for the Olympics in golf. That year, Bangladesh sent seven athletes, which was more than any other time. Some athletes have also joined the Games through a special wildcard process. Even though Bangladesh has about 170 million people, it is the largest country in the world without an Olympic medal.

In 2008, a leader of the Bangladesh Olympic Association explained that the country's challenges, like a difficult economy and problems with fairness, have made it hard for Bangladesh to succeed in sports.
